Turning competency standards into real learning

We design and support competency-based learning, embedding the standard into curriculum, pedagogy, and classroom practice. Our work is grounded in active, project-based pedagogies; aligned to national curriculum requirements; and orientated toward education for sustainability and real-world problem solving.

UNICEF & Department of Basic Education

Since 2023, we have been the implementer of one of the largest 21st-century skills programme rollouts in South African public education — a full, systems-level intervention spanning teacher training, curriculum support, infrastructure, and community activation. This includes:

  • Training for teachers and officials on both content and 21st-century competencies
  • Support on lesson design and instructional delivery, grounded in active pedagogies
  • Learner competitions and showcases that make competence visible and aspirational
  • Action research to learn from the field and refine implementation
  • Change management and stakeholder engagement across all levels of the system
  • Establishing Coding & Robotics / STEAMIE hubs as shared community assets
